Villa Agave in addition to being superb luxury and glamour holiday villa is at the same time small historical and cultural monument and valuable treasury of fine art and antiques. Its core is the old chapel of St. Lazarus from the 13th century, while the remaining part, according to the Conservation Department, dates back from 17th and 18th century. During his stay in Dubrovnik between 1875 and 1882, Sir Arthur Evans, famous English archeologist who discovered the remains of ancient civilization on Crete, lived in this house, and his Croatian contemporaries regularly made reference to this “amazing house” in Ploče. The house was destroyed in WWII, abandoned and without a roof until 1973. It was later renovated by famous Croatian painter Milovan Stanic who painted the fresco that still adorns Vila Agave’s living room wall.
The villa has been designed to a signed to a high degree of luxury with many interesting and valuable antique details. Vila Agave today has 227 square meters of exclusively designed interior (divided into two floors) and another 397 square meters of specially designed space around the house. A Mediterranean style dominates the interior, droned with details inspired by the Far East. The heart of the house is the spacious fire placed living room and dining room.
It has three luxurious bedrooms whose rustic wooden floors, timber ceiling beams and rich fabrics reflect a spirit of antiquity; VIP lounge; spacious living room; four luxury bathrooms and an outdoor pool. On the ground floor of Villa Agave there is large living room with fireplace and dining area equipped with dining table for 8 people with unusual and very enjoyable interior. On this floor there are also two luxury double bedrooms with en-suite marble tiled bathrooms featured with elegant and subtle decor that reveals the spirit of antiquity and its value but also perfect adaptation of modern design. On the same floor, just a few steps below, is especially attractive and interesting relaxation/meditation room, once the old chapel with details from a distant past, original rustic stone walls, and skillfully incorporated modernist and Mediterranean details.
On the upper floor of Villa Agave that is reachable by open wooden stairs, there is a master bedroom equally beautiful and elegantly furnished as the rest of the house and equipped with separate bathrooms - one with a vintage self-standing bath – offering wonderful views over Lokrum Island. On this floor there is also a small library with access to a beautiful terrace.
