Location

Čiovo is an island situated in middle Dalmatia, connected with the city of Trogir by a drawbridge, and administratively divided between Split, Trogir and Okrug. Total surface of the island is 28.8 km² and there are several villages: Okrug Donji, Okrug Gornji, Arbanija, Slatine, Žedno and Čiovo. The island was inhabited already in prehistory and old Romans used to call it Boa (Bua, Bavo). During XV and XVI century the surrounding population came to the island, running away from the Turks. Since the island Čiovo is a kind of extension of the city of Trogir, it offers a lot of possibilities for vacation, recreation and swimming, as well as numerous historical monuments. The Mediterranean vegetation, archipelago with small picturesque little islands, mild climate and most beautiful beaches in hidden bays, will certainly make your stay unforgettable. Trogir is an island with one of the biggest historical heritage in the world, abound in beauty and history and it has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. It has beautiful palaces, churches, towers and even a Kamerlengo fortress that was built in the 15th century. One of the most famous monuments in Trogir is The Cathedral of St. Lawrence, also called the Cathedral of St. John. The construction of the cathedral started in 1213, and many great names were working on it during next centuries. Trogir is a small city with only around 13.000 inhabitants, but you have so many beautiful architectural monuments hidden there that you will definitely never get bored! The town is situated on a small island and it's connected with the mainland by a bridge. When you walk through the streets of Trogir, you will think that you went few centuries back because the urban and architectural plan of Trogir has kept its basic medieval structural elements of a fortified town.
